How the guest book works

    A card on every table

    You print a card for each table, with a QR code and a question to get people writing. The table number sets the starting year: everyone at table 5 begins on your 5th anniversary, so the letters come back a table at a time. Any guest can pick another year.

    Tables 1 to 25 each get their own year.

    Guests write, choose when it opens, and seal it

    It takes a few minutes on a phone. There is a prompt for anyone stuck on the first line, a voice note of up to 2 minutes for anyone who would rather talk, and room for up to 3 photos inside the envelope.

    Then they choose when it opens: an anniversary, a milestone like your first home, or when you need it most. They sign it, or leave it anonymous, and hold to seal it. Once it is sealed nobody can read it before its day, not even the guest who wrote it.

    Photos on the big screen

    Put the guest book on a TV or a projector. Photos appear as guests add them, sealed envelopes show the year they open, and the QR code stays on screen for anyone who missed their card.

    At the end of the night you seal the book with a short countdown, and the screen shows how many envelopes went in. The photo album is there for guests straight away, and guests who left an email get its link after the wedding.

    Then, the anniversaries

    On each anniversary we email you that its envelopes are ready, and you open them together on Sealed, one envelope at a time, or on the TV.

    Milestone letters wait until you mark the milestone as happened. The ones for when you need them most open whenever you decide. Nothing stays sealed longer than 25 years.

What it costs

Paid once, by how many guests you expect. A guest counts once they add something, a letter or a photo.

Nobody is turned away on the night, up to 330 guests. If more guests write than your size covers, plus 10%, you pay the difference to move up a size before you open the letters.

Each guest can seal up to 5 envelopes and add up to 15 photos. Letters run to 5,000 characters and voice notes to 2 minutes. There is no video.

Wedding guest book questions

Is there an app where guests write letters we open on our anniversary?
Yes: the Open When Guest Book from Sealed. Guests scan the QR card on their table with their phone camera, so there is nothing to install and no account to make. Each guest writes a letter, records a voice note of up to 2 minutes or adds photos, then picks when it opens: your 1st, 5th, 10th or 25th anniversary, a milestone such as your first home, or when you need it most.
Do guests need an app or an account?
No. The card opens a page in the phone's browser. Guests type the name they want on the envelope, or leave it anonymous. An email address is optional. The photo album is there for guests straight away; with an email they also get its link after the wedding, and can ask to hear when you open their letter. Each guest can seal up to 5 envelopes and add up to 15 photos.
Do you plan to keep Sealed running?
We do not plan to stop Sealed, and we have no plans to for at least the next 10 years. It is in section 11 of our terms of service.
What about guests who can't come?
Send them your guest book's link. It opens the same page as the table cards, so they can write from anywhere once your guest book is live, before the day or on the night. After your guest book is sealed, late letters and photos can still be added for 7 days. You can change that before the seal, to anything from none to 30 days, and keep it open longer afterwards, up to 30 days after the seal.

When do we get to open the letters?
Each letter opens on the day its guest chose. On each anniversary we email you that its envelopes are ready, and you open them together on Sealed. Milestone letters open when you mark the milestone as happened, and the ones for when you need them most open whenever you decide. Nothing stays sealed longer than 25 years.
Can guests read each other's letters?
No. Only you, the couple, open the letters, and only when their day comes. Once a letter is sealed even the guest who wrote it cannot read it back. Photos are different: the ones guests add to the album go up on the big screen during the party.
How long do you keep the letters and photos?
Envelopes are kept until you open them, and you can read them again afterwards. Album photos are kept for 2 years after the wedding, and we email you 30 days and 7 days before they are removed so you can download them. Photos inside an envelope stay with its letter.
Can we try it before the wedding?
Yes, two ways. Test mode is free: set up your guest book, print a card and seal up to 5 test envelopes yourselves, which are cleared when you go live ahead of the day. Or open the demo guest book on this page and write in it as a guest, the way your guests will.
